Marni Phuket’s Flower Pizza

Manageability – Easy as Pie (get it?)

I once dated a guy who’s first job was a pizza maker at Fortell’s Pizza Den in St. Louis, Missouri, and he never ever let me forget that. Every time we made pizza (fresh or frozen), he had to get his grubby little hands into the dough, or put too much oregano on, or place the pepperonis himself in an oh-so-particular way. I never got him, he never got me, and I booted him quicker than you can say “marinara”. And I moved on in my pizza life (and love life), to this adorable pie inspired by Marni Phuket. It’s flower pizza!

The easiest way to decorate this pie is to start the traditional way. Round dough, nice and thin (if that’s your thing), and a thin layer of pizza sauce. You can spread either with a spoon or a brush, but in any event you want to see some of the dough underneath. Nothing worse than when you’re eating a pizza and you have to drink a mouthful of sauce. Then place a half of a yellow-grape tomato, and around that you can drop pearls of fresh mozzarella. As a person who loves pizza Margherita, this is really all you need for a delicious pizza. Throw some fresh basil on top for color and a bit of flavor, and you got yourself an adorable pizza that’s easy to do when you’re drunk. It’s kinda like Phuket itself in that way – cute, drunk, hot, and memorable.

And now, as Miley says, you can buy (make) yourself flowers… Flowers. Another thing my ex never got me.

Ingredients

  • Pizza Dough – IDK, make your favorite one? I could recommend this one.
  • Fresh Mozzarella pearls. Usually I find these in the “fancy cheese” section of the grocery store.
  • Yellow grape tomatoes
  • Marinara. I like Rao’s, but again, that’s all you, or you can make our own but maybe not while drunk.
  • Fresh basil.
  • Oregano (if you’re my ex)

Directions

  • Pizza basics. Pre-heat to 450-ish. Roll and knead that dough. Spread the sauce. All that crap.
  • Halve tomatoes, and place in somewhat spread-out parts of the crust: enough room to place the mozzarella.
  • Place mozzarella around your tomatoes. Remember, these will spread and melt a bit when you cook the pizza, so don’t get them too close.
  • Garnish with basil
  • Cook that mother until the cheese is melted and you get some of that crispy-burnt looks on the edge. 10-15 minutes, but keep a close eye.
  • Eat it too fast and burn your mouth. You know you want to.
