Lia Griffith’s Adorable Animal Gift Wrap

Manageability – Would have been easier with a printer.

I know you’re looking for something to tuck under the tree that isn’t just another lame gift bag, or a cardboard box wrapped in newspaper. Even most wrapping paper is boring nowadays. Why does it have to be so repetitive? How about one long picture throughout the entire tube? Face it – unless you’re sword fighting, wrapping paper is lame. Enter: Lia Griffith’s Adorable Animal Gift Wrap.

And in a word, these are adorable. I mean look at these things and tell me they aren’t! Cute little foxes and reindeer? If you were so inclined you could even do Rudolph. I challenge you to find something more holly jolly than that. Lia has these as templates you can print out, which means they have a bit more detail than mine, because I didn’t use a printer. I went to Michaels and bought multi-colored cardstock and used scissors and glue, and I cut it all out free-hand because that’s how much I care about Christmas (and also I don’t have a printer). I will say when you put them together, be sure to put the eyes ON the seams, as opposed to underneath them, so you don’t mistake the seams for eyebrows. Some of Lia’s animals look a little angry to me.

These are festive, fun, unique, and took less time than my husband spends wrapping a normal present. I highly recommend them.

Supplies

  • Plain wrapping paper: Gold, Silver, Brown, or Black. Whatever color you want your animals to be.
  • Card stock
  • Glue stick
  • Small round cookie cutter (for the eyes)
  • Scotch tape and Scissors, but you already have that.
  • Printer (optional)

Directions

  1. Wrap the gift using the plain wrapping paper first. Pick the color you want the body of your animal to be. Most animals are brown, it turns out. That’s weird to think about.
  2. Using your scissors, cut out the eyes, nose, ears and feet from the cardstock.
  3. Draw fingers by adding small lines on the feets.
  4. Glue the eyes to the front of the package (again, on the seams)
  5. Draw a button nose and tiny mouth onto the nose cut-out, and glue it in between.
  6. Attach the feet to the bottom.
  7. Attach the ears to the top using colored layers. you will need to fold them at the base so they stand upright.
