Dishes and Dust Bunnies’ Easy Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

Manageability – More like tzat-easy sauce.

Making sauces can be intimidating. Sometimes the instructions demand boiling and simmering, gentle pouring, precise timing, and a crazy amount of spicing. I’ve watched enough Triple D to know I probably won’t be making my own BBQ sauce anytime soon. That stuff is complicated man. Sometimes sauces are tough. But, lucky for you, this is not one of those times.

This tasty and tangy tzatziki sauce from Dishes and Dust Bunnies was really good, and a breeze to make. It’s creamy and sweet, you can really taste the dill, and the cucumber flavor provides a sneaky tasty addition. We used it as a saucy compliment to the garlic and lemon flavors in the chicken gyros. My only issue with this recipe is that it makes a LOT. Better have the whole family over (with facemasks) because you are going to have buckets left over. Also, squeezing shredded cucumber is really, really weird. Nobody likes it.

Yeah yeah, we couldn’t go to Greece because of COVID. But at least we got to make some tasty Greek-inspired tzatziki sauce and drink a lot of Ouzo (future post). Plus, we got to hold a cucumber. You naughty-brained little thing.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large English cucumber (you pervert)
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Salt N’ Peppa
  • 2 cups Greek Yogurt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Slice the cucumber in half lengthwise. (ouch)
  2. Using a spoon scoop out the seeds in the middle and discard.
  3. Using a grater, finely grate the cucumber into a mesh strainer over a bowl.
  4. Sprinkle some salt on the cucumber and squeeze out some of the moisture using your hand, or an automatic squeezing machine.
  5. Allow the cucumber to sit in the strainer for 25-30 minutes to drain any more excess moisture.
  6. Discard the water that accumulated in the bowl.
  7. In a medium sized bowl combine all ingredients. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Place the sauce in the fridge for at least 1 hour before using in order to allow the flavors to develop.
  9. Open fridge, and remove sauce. Use sauce in a tasty thing.
