Manageability – Kindof a lot for some tea.
England is weird, right guys? They drive on the left side of the road, notoriously hate dentists, and instead of coffee or water they drink tea. Well, the tea thing isn’t actually that bad. I like tea. In fact, this Rose & Earl Grey Tea from Katie S. Lyon was really good. It was a bit much for a single cup of tea, but it was really quite splendid.
It starts out pretty basic: heat up water and add tea bags. But she has you warming up some coconut milk in a saucepan (be careful not to boil), and honestly that’s already more effort than I would do for a single cup of tea. I really did like it though. The addition of vanilla and sweetener was a great move. Plus the warm milk made it frothy and really soothing. It really coats the inside of your mouth and makes you feel warm inside – so perfect for a snowy day while you get to enjoy breakfast in bed like Lady Grantham. And the dried rose pedals are adorable. Admit it.
Don’t tell me how Downton Abbey ends. I’m only halfway through.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons loose Earl Grey tea (or two teabags, or if you have one of those mesh thingies you can use that)
- 2 tablespoons dried rose petals
- 1 cup coconut cream from top of coconut milk can (or almond milk)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (clear or opaque)
- Sweetener of your choice, like some liquid stevia
- Garnish: ground dried rose petals (optional), or dried severed hand (also optional)
Instructions
- Boil water in a pan or use a kettle. Pour water into a French press or heat-proof jug/pan with a cover. I used a cute teapot. Add the tea and dried rose petals. Allow to steep for 5-10 minutes.
- While the tea is brewing, add the coconut milk to a small saucepan. Whisk over medium heat for a few minutes but do not boil. Remove from heat and set aside. Just set it all the way aside.
- When the tea is brewed to your liking, strain and pour into a blender (use a fine mesh sieve if not using a French press). Add the warm coconut milk, vanilla, and sweetener and blend until frothy (about a minute). Be careful blending hot liquids, you goon!
- Pour into two glasses or mugs and sprinkle with ground dried rose petals (optional).
